WINERY PROFILE | Bodegas Valduero
“Light yellow. Vibrant lemon zest and pear aromas are complemented by anise and chamomile, with a minerally quality in the background. In the mouth, dried pear and citrus pith flavors are given spine by juicy acidity and sharpened by a gingery nuance. Closes with firm grip and very good stony persistence. Albillo, a.k.a. albillo mayor, is native to the area and although these vines are planted in the Ribera del Duero zone, the variety is not allowed to bear the designation–hence the generic, overarching Castillo y Leon moniker. There are reportedly just over five hectares of albillo left in Spain.”
